Invest in the life of a child

I am just starting to grasp the difference between a handout and an investment in another life. My sweet friends at City of Refuge in Ghana are doing it right. For the past few weeks, they have conducted orphan and child investigations in their village to determine the need for education sponsorships. They went to the 8 village chiefs and asked for their blessing. They spent countless hours conducting surveys of homes and employment status of parents. From this information, they decided which type of coverage a child would need for school, recognizing that some truly need full scholarships, some partial, and some not at all. So... that's where we come in. They are in need of child sponsors..

To start your sponsorship... go to and indicated which tier you would like to sponsor in the donate box.

You can also go to their facebook page!/pages/Faith-Roots-International-Academy/230644943647740     to see many of the children who need sponsors.

When "Thank You " Is Not Enough...

You know those moments when you want to say so much more but a simple "thank you" is all that comes out... that is how I feel today. When we started this adoption journey;  I never would have imagined the individuals who would step up to invest in our children's lives. Many of you know that my mother-in- law has the gift of creativity. She has taken her gift and used it to bless our adoption and little girls who have very little. Her and her friends started making these dresses last winter on their craft days so that we could take them to Ghana in January and for another person to take to Haiti. Once we decided to adopt, Mrs. Miller decided to name the dresses, "Remnant Dresses."
...A remnant dress is one made with love from leftover fabric “remnants.”

rem-nant: a). a small surviving group
b). an unused end of piece goods

a). may every girl clothed in our dress be a part of the remnant
Romans 11:5 Eph. 2: 13-16
b). God can create beauty from anything and anyone

For each dress purchased, a SECOND dress is given to a daughter of the King living in an orphanage.

As of today, we have sold 95 dresses and sent 99 to
Ghana, Haiti, and Zambia!!

194 girls are a part of the Remnant!

35 Dresses are leaving for Zambia with the McBride's in 3 weeks!

SO... Mrs. Miller, THANK YOU!!! and thank you to everyone else who has made dresses including my Great Aunt Sarah and for all of you who have bought them and held dress shows. You have invested in an everlasting Kingdom.

If you would like to buy a dress, hold a trunk show, or make dresses; please let me know!! We have sizes 1T-12 girls. $30 each. They are adorable with leggings and long sleeve tees for the fall :)

"Christ has no body on earth but yours,
no hands but yours,
no feet but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which
Christ's compassion
for the world is to look out;
yours are the feet with which
HE is to go about doing good;
and yours are the hands with which
HE is to bless us now."
~ Saint Terea of Avila

We are HIS...

What message are we sending to the world about the way we live our lives? As His people, we are announcing His character.
What are we saying we care about?

If you claim to be a follower of Christ,
Jesus is living HIS life

Family Nurse Practitioner.... check!

This past weekend, I finished my formal education!!! For now anyways.... :) Finishing school brings two thoughts....

1. Thankfulness for my family and friends who encouraged me all the way through! I had over 20 family members come to my graduation. Finishing my degree is a huge testament to the people below. Without them, I would have never had the physical, emotional, and mental strength to finish well. I am forever grateful to those who invested in my education since I was born... those at Nanny's Daycare, Christian Academy of Knoxville, University of Tennessee, and Vanderbilt University. Each step has played an irreplaceable role in who I am today. I want to say a special thank you to my preceptors for this year.... Karyn Jones, Dr. Joseph Peeden, and Dr. Daniel Cox. They sacrificed so that I could learn. They gave their time, energy, knowledge, and heart to invest in me and I am forever grateful!

2. A deep desire to advocate for EVERY child to have the opportunity to go to school. I know school is a negative thing for so many but  you really have to step back and evaluate life without it. Remember... you wouldn't be reading this right now. I would encourage you to invest in ANOTHER'S education... physically as a teacher or coach, mentally and emotionally as a mentor, or financially as a support system.... BR CREATIVE with YOUR gifts!

Celebratory dance!
Jer, thank you for the hundreds of meals you cooked, a shoulder to cry on, a push when I wanted to stop, and a fresh perspective of what's really important in life. I know much of our first year of marriage was spent on the couch together studying but that is right where the Lord had us. I will commit to serving you in this next season of school for you just as you have for me. I love you!

Follow Me

..."And He said to Him, 'FOLLOW ME'"... Luke 5:27

2 words... seems simple enough. I have personally wrestled over and over with these 2 words and watched others do the same. See if it were only 2 words, it would be simple but I have this uncanny ability to add to it...

The Lord says FOLLOW ME...

and I add...

  •  After _____ happens
  • When you  have $_____
  • When you are ____ years old
  • When you can talk a few others into coming with you
  • After you  have rested
  • When you are not doing anything else (like that EVER happens)
  • When you "feel" prepared or ready
  • Once you have been trained
  • When you get their approval (whoever they might be)
  • When you are comfortable
  • Once I give you an itinerary
It quickly becomes SO much more than "Follow Me". It is no longer on HIS terms. It is on mine. Somehow I have flipped the command around completely, taken the reigns, and attempted to lead. I have developed this "when I am ready and finished with all of my things.... then... I may consider your 2 simple words" idea. Where does this attitude come from and how can we get rid of it?  I challenge you  to really consider those 2 words of "Follow Me" and make a list of your additions to the phrase. One by one, start praying over each of those phrases and watch them melt away. It will rock your world.

You won't know the who, what, when, where and how at first but you will be "FOLLOWING HIM" and there is nothing more fabulous!!

In an attempt to see the who, what, when, where, and how of HIS LIFE, start in the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in the Bible) and simply FOLLOW HIS LEAD AND EXAMPLE.

Because of His Grace,

P.S. everyone's "Follow Me" doesn't look the exact same... how boring would that be!?
